                                       ARGUNGU FISHING FESTIVAL

    Its high time we change our motive about the Northerners because they are having lot of fun. Come to think of this particular festival where they beat drums, dance and at the same time catch fishes.
    Argungu festival begun as a four religious rites which serves as a communal affair during the time of Surame Gungu of Kebbi Kingdom, these rites conform to the modern celebration of this festival. The modern celebration has become more fun and elaborate due to the thrilling event added to it' which has really become a tourist attraction because Northerners and different from far and wide come together in unity to celebrate.
     For four days different activities and event like: {Craft Exhibition, Canoe Race, Cultural Display, Wrestling competition, Wild Duck Hunting, Agricultural Exhibition, Swimming Competition etc} are performed on the festival ground for entertaining the public.
            On the D-day which is the fishing festival itself  begins with more than 5000 fishermen and women gathered close to the river and the sound of gunshot they all dive into the river to hunt for the biggest fish. Aside from gourd made from calabash and traditional net,modern fishing equipment is not allowed.Later, drummers come into the river with canoes, they beat their drums to make the fish swim to the shallow part of the river.
