Yoruba Traditional Wedding

 

Have you thought of the kind of the traditional wedding you want to have? what if I tell you having a Yoruba traditional wedding will be really awesome.
       Looking at how indigenous and traditional it is. Mastered by two police(Alaga)from both families,the groom's family have the standing police/spokesperson(Alaga Iduro) while the bride's family is the sitting police/spokesperson(Alaga Ijoko).
      The ceremony starts with the bride family wait for the groom's family arrival, at this moment the couple are absent.The sitting police together with some of the housewives welcome the groom's at the entrance.They asked them to state their reason for coming before collecting their entrance fee.Then she introduce them to the bride's family and they pray for them.After the prayer the grooms family prostrate to the bride family.The groom's family sit opposite the bride's family with the two police in between them.
       The Standing Police tender their proposal letter to the Sitting Police on behalf of the groom's family which is read out loud by a younger female representative of the bride's family.Then an acceptance letter is giving to the groom's family.

      After the prayer is said, the groom and his friend dance in and then prostrate four times. First, they prostrate twice for the new in-laws(bride's family), then the groom prostrate for them alone.The last will then be for his family. He takes his seat after giving out money,then wait for the bride.
      The bride comes in veiled, she dances in with her parent and friends(Ore Iyawo). Her parent prays for her while she kneels before them(always very emotional), she does the same for the husband family before taking off her veil while going to join her husband.She kneels before him while prayers are said to them, he then give her money before carrying her for all to see.She is presented with her husband cap then she wears the cap for him to signify acceptance of proposal.
        She is instructed to pick one(either Qur'an/Bible) gift out of the wedding list items brought by her husband.After that,the bride's family present a returning gift to the groom's family to show they are not selling the daughter.
