This is another sight feeding event held in a buzzing area of  Lagos State(Lagos Island).     This colourful event also known as Fanti was usually held during the Lagos Black Heritage Festival which originated from the Lagos colonial period.     The preparation for this event start from the employment of thousands of artisans who are gainful employed six month before the event.They decorate all the costumes, floats, and all other colourful decor needed for the event.      The main event is thrilling looking at how colourful everywhere is not to talk of all other side attractions like the parades,dance etc.The event is an annual opportunity for all Lagosians to celebrate and have fun with each other.                             U CAN'T🙅 AFFORD TO MISS THE NEXT ONE😚😙   

New Yam Festival

Yam lovers where are you?🙋I just have to share this so you will know you have your day on the Igbo's calendar.      This event usually happen after the rainy season in early August. It symbolizes the conclusion of an harvest and beginning of a new one.Yam is the first crop to be harvested which is very important to the people of this particular region.     On the eve of this event specifically towards the evening, all the old yam are consumed or discarded, because they believe the new year should start with tasty and newly harvested yam not the old dried one of the previous year. Ever thought of having a very fun filled day? stop brooding because here i have a very beautiful carnival you can attend to burst your bubbles. Calabar carnival has being an awesome event which always made the nooks and crannies of Cross River filled with tourists and individuals from far and wide.You just have to congratulate me for telling you this.        This ceremony started since 2004, the aim was to make the state the centre of tourism and hospitality.It has serve as centre of relaxation and fun.Though it a ceremony it also helps to enhance the capability of the local people in taking part in a beneficial way.          Surprisingly, this particular ceremony last for 31 days specifically in December making tourist and visitors who had come have time to go round the state.The events happening at the carnival might differ from the previous year's own because there is room for innovation and ideas.        ...

Yoruba Traditional Wedding

  Have you thought of the kind of the traditional wedding you want to have? what if I tell you having a Yoruba traditional wedding will be really awesome.        Looking at how indigenous and traditional it is. Mastered by two police(Alaga)from both families,the groom's family have the standing police/spokesperson(Alaga Iduro) while the bride's family is the sitting police/spokesperson(Alaga Ijoko).       The ceremony starts with the bride family wait for the groom's family arrival, at this moment the couple are absent.The sitting police together with some of the housewives welcome the groom's at the entrance.They asked them to state their reason for coming before collecting their entrance fee.Then she introduce them to the bride's family and they pray for them.After the prayer the grooms family prostrate to the bride family.The groom's family sit opposite the bride's family with the two police in between them.       ...

The Lagosians often make a slang in Yoruba "o de eko ,o mo eyo" which means "if you haven't reach Lagos you can't know this masquerade".    This particular masquerade have actually made them unique among other states, and also made Lagos (Lagos Island) very populated during its celebration.    In the history of this particular masquerade it wasn't held as a festival. It was for honoring the demise of the King and a highly respected Chief.
